Q
When it rains, is a metal roof noisy inside my home?
A: No, it won't be. Metal roofing is actually quieter oftentimes than an asphalt shingle roof. This is mainly because a metal roof will float over the roofing deck creating air space between the metal roof itself and the roofing deck. The extra space actually works as a sound barrier of sorts.
Q
How long does a metal roof last?
A: A metal roof that has been installed properly should last a lifetime. The superior technology provides long-lasting protection against peeling, blistering, cracking, splitting, and delaminating among other weathering that has been known to happen to traditional asphalt shingles. There is also an option to restore and recoat the finish in 40-50 years' time to extend the longevity even further.
Q
How much do metal roofs cost compared to asphalt?
A: Though the upfront cost of a metal roof is higher than an asphalt shingle roof, the long life of a metal roof will actually save you money in the long run. As a long-term investment, a metal roof will outlast any asphalt shingle roof.
Q
Are there standard ventilation requirements?
A: Proper ventilation is one of, if not the most important key factors in the life expectancy of a roof. Depending on the type of roof and its slope, asphalt roof requirements can range from 1sq. ft. of ventilation for every 300 sq. ft. up to 1 sq. ft of ventilation for every 150 sq. ft. For example:

1000 sq ft roof require 3 to 7 vents
1500 sq ft roof require 5 to 10 vents
2000 sq ft roof require 7 to 14 vents
Q
Does the color of a metal roof fade over time?
A: All of Eco-Metal USA's metal roofs are painted using high performance polyester to a thickness of a 35 µm Granite Deep Mat Wrinkled coating applied to a galvanized steel substrate with a zinc coating with a minimum 275 g/m2 for Granite that has exceptional weathering properties. Though a slight change in color may happen over time, this is due to the settling of airborne contamination that occurs naturally. Rain or washing the roof will not affect its color in a negative fashion.
Q
Will a metal roof rust?
A: Metal roofing material sold by Eco-Metal USA is put through a rigorous process of several baths. Rust on steel is eliminated with a zinc/aluminum coating or with several coatings of various kinds.
Q
Is a metal roof safe in a storm or when there is lightning?
A: In no way does your home's likelihood of getting hit by lightning increase due to a metal roof. If your home is struck by lightning, your metal roof is designed to disperse the energy safely throughout the structure. Metal roofing is not flammable or combustible. Metal roofing is considered to be a desirable, low risk roofing option for areas with severe weather conditions including lightning.
Q
Is a metal roof easily damaged by hail?
A: Metal roofs are highly resistant to hail damage and are much more hail resistant than asphalt or fiberglass shingles. Many metal roof products have the highest impact resistance and hail rating granted by the insurance commissions in the hail belt regions of the US.
Q
Can I walk on the roof?
A: You can safely walk on any metal roof without damaging it. Before you walk on your roof however, we recommend you talk to your installer or us first. Based on the style and the pitch of the roof, the appropriate details on how to walk on a particular roof will be provided by our experts.
Q
Is a metal roof environmentally friendly? How does it work with the environment?
A: Not only is metal roofing great for your home, it is ideal for the environment. The recycled content of the steel in a metal roof is about 56% from production, to installation, to reuse, far surpassing asphalt. National Association of Homebuilders Research Center reports that each year, 20 billion pounds of asphalt shingles are dumped into U.S. landfills. Metal roofing helps to reduce excessive shingle waste as it can often be installed over the current asphalt shingle roof.
